Computer software engineers design, develop, test, and evaluate computer applications and system software. Although programmers write and support programs in new languages, much of the design and development is the responsibility of software engineers or software developers.
Software engineers in the systems design and related services industry must possess strong programming skills, but are more concerned with developing algorithms, and analyzing and solving programming problems for specific network systems. They also develop custom programs to meet the needs of a particular customer. They develop software systems for control and automation in manufacturing, business, and other areas.

Computer Engineer (also called Electronic and Computer Engineer , or Computer Systems Engineer) is a job that combines both Electronic Engineering and Computer Science. Computer engineers usually have training in electronic engineering, software design and hardware-software integration instead of only software engineering or electronic engineering.
Computer engineers are involved in many aspects of computing, from the design of individual microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. For easy understand and comparing with computer programming. The difference is that Programmers create the video games and Computers Engineers create the console. I think my Dream Job would be working for Google Inc. as a Networking Engineer. A networking engineer is responsible for continued enhancements of Google’s features and applications at a massive scale while providing reliable service to Internet users throughout the world. As we all know, Google is MASSIVE, because of its size, the scale and complexity of Google’s network creates a constant amount of challenges. To solve these challenges – you will need to use evolving sets of technologies that require innovation. You will need to provide innovation to scaling and new features.

My dream would be to have a position as an IT Program Manager. An IT project Manager implements and administers over the Technology within a company or organization. They are in charge of coordinating with other managers in their organization to determine goals, and then to implement the technology that will help their company reach those goals.

IT Program Managers are also in charge of all Technical aspects of an organization. This includes Networks, Software, Software development, Security, and all internet operations. They implement all of these things by directing other IT professionals, such as Systems analysts, Computer engineers, Programmers, and Support Specialists.

This job requires a person to remain abreast of all technologies, and to make sure that their company can implement any relevant technologies. They also have to make sure that their networks kept up to date and working, and that all networks are secure. They also can assign and review the work of their subordinates so that they can more easily stay abreast. In other words, I want to be the head fish of the department.

The job that I’ve chosen is Systems Analyst, more specifically a Financial Systems Analyst.

The requirements for this job tend to pull from both a financial background as well as a background in information technology. The Education requirements are usually a bachelors degree in information technology, or computer science. These degrees are usually coupled with masters in finance or accounting, or even an MBA.

The role of a Systems Analyst would be to analyze the needs of a business as it pertains to technology; coordinating software compatibility, and just working out the kinks. As a Financial Systems Analyst this would focus on software and technology directly involved with the maintenance of accounts and organizing of financial information.

The job markets for both Systems Analysts and Financial Analysts are expected to grow much faster over the next several years and tend to see an average salary range from $50,700 to $90,690. The top ten percent earn more than $130,130.

    Dream job: Programmer
    Salary: Average $112,000 UDS
    Source: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos303.htm

“Overall, employment of computer software engineers and computer programmers is projected to increase by 21 percent from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations”

“Employment of computer programmers is expected to decline by 3 percent through 2018.
Job prospects will be best for applicants with a bachelor’s or higher degree and relevant experience.”

“Computer programmers write programs. After computer software engineers and systems analysts design software programs, the programmer converts that design into a logical series of instructions that the computer can follow (A section on computer systems analysts appears elsewhere in the Handbook.). The programmer codes these instructions in any of a number of programming languages, depending on the need. The most common languages are C++ and Python.

Computer programmers also update, repair, modify, and expand existing programs. Some, especially those working on large projects that involve many programmers, use computer-assisted software engineering (CASE) tools to automate much of the coding process. These tools enable a programmer to concentrate on writing the unique parts of a program. Programmers working on smaller projects often use “programmer environments,” applications that increase productivity by combining compiling, code walk-through, code generation, test data generation, and debugging functions. Programmers also use libraries of basic code that can be modified or customized for a specific application. This approach yields more reliable and consistent programs and increases programmers’ productivity by eliminating some routine steps.”

“A bachelor’s degree also is required for many computer programming jobs, although a 2-year degree or certificate may be adequate in some cases. Employers favor applicants who already have relevant skills and experience. Workers who keep up to date with the latest technology usually have good opportunities for advancement. ”

“Employers who use computers for scientific or engineering applications usually prefer college graduates who have a degree in computer or information science, mathematics, engineering, or the physical sciences. Employers who use computers for business applications prefer to hire people who have had college courses in management information systems and business, and who possess strong programming skills. A graduate degree in a related field is required for some jobs.”

“In addition to educational attainment, employers highly value relevant programming skills and experience. Students seeking software engineering or programming jobs can enhance their employment opportunities by participating in internships. Some employers, such as large computer and consulting firms, train new employees in intensive, company-based programs.”

“Computer software engineers and computer programmers held about 1.3 million jobs in 2008. Approximately 514,800 were computer applications software engineers, about 394,800 were computer systems software engineers, and about 426,700 were computer programmers. Although computer software engineers and computer programmers can be found in a wide range of industries about 32 percent were employed in computer systems design and related services. Many also worked for software publishers, manufacturers of computers and related electronic equipment, financial institutions, and insurance providers. About 48,200 computer software engineers and computer programmers were self-employed in 2008. “

Being that most businesses and organizations rely on computers and other information technologies, a system analyst is usually needed to help operate everything efficiently. They can sometimes be in charge of developing or designing a new system or even just helping out with an existing system. They oversee the hardware and sofware of each component and run tests to debug and eliminate any erros.
Because of the great demand and expandature in the IT world, system analysts are always going to have a job. They’re always involved with networking and trying to improve the connection and communication between businesses.

The job which I have chosen is Computer Software Engineer. I like to work with software programs and specially new or newest software. Computer software engineers apply computer science, engineering, and math to design, develop, and test software. Most employers prefer to hire people who have at least a bachelor’s degree and experience with a variety of computer systems. The most common degrees are computer science, software engineering, and computer systems. Some of the more complex jobs require graduate degrees.

The middle 50 percent of computer applications software engineers earned between $62,830 and $98,470 in 2006.

Computer software engineers held about 857,000 jobs in 2006.

    Computer Software Engineer

Computer software engineers design and develop software along with applying the theories and principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to create, test, and evaluate the software applications and systems that make computers work. Computer software engineers begin by analyzing users’ needs, and then design, test, and develop software to meet those needs. Software engineers design and develop many types of software, including computer games, business applications, operating systems, network control systems, and middleware. They must be experts in the theory of computing systems, the structure of software, and the nature and limitations of hardware to ensure that the underlying systems will work properly.

The salary for Computer Software Engineers vary within your specialty and level of responsibility and skills. The minimum salary in 2008 was $57,810 and the maximum salary in 2008 was $135,780. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, starting salary offers for graduates with a bachelor’s degree in computer science averaged $61,407 in July 2009.

I beleive that I would enjoy this job if I were headed towards the IT field. I feel that the experience level that I would be able to take on could drastically increase as time goes by and introduce me to many programs used to create and tests many websites, games, and programs businesses commonly use or individually.
